When someone calls 911, paramedics are often the first trained medical providers to arrive. This degree takes you from EMT-Basic through Advanced EMT to Paramedic, preparing you for the National Registry (NREMT) exams at each level and for South Carolina certification.
What you’ll learn
- Airway management, cardiac monitoring and advanced life support
- Emergency pharmacology and IV and IO access
- Trauma, medical, pediatric and obstetric emergencies
- Scene safety, triage and mass-casualty response
- Hurricane and coastal-disaster preparedness
Why Palmetto Ridge
Our full-size ambulance simulator in the Health Sciences Building lets you practice in a moving, cramped, noisy space before your first real call. You’ll complete clinical rotations in the emergency department and ICU at Lowcountry Regional Medical Center and field internships with county EMS agencies throughout the Lowcountry. Lead instructor Andre spent 18 years as a flight paramedic, and our faculty include former military medics who understand what it takes to perform under pressure. Veterans and current EMTs can receive credit for prior training. Because the AAS includes general education, you can later pursue a bachelor’s in emergency management or health administration.
