A radiologic technology student positioning a patient for an X-ray

Radiologic technologists create the images doctors rely on to diagnose broken bones, pneumonia, injuries and disease. In this two-year program you’ll move from anatomy and patient positioning to running exams on your own under supervision, and you’ll graduate eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam.

What you’ll learn

  • Radiographic positioning for every major body system
  • Radiation physics, safety and protection for patients and staff
  • Digital image acquisition, evaluation and quality control
  • Patient care, sterile technique and contrast procedures
  • Introduction to CT and other advanced imaging modalities

Why Palmetto Ridge

Our energized lab in the Health Sciences Building features the same digital radiography systems used in regional hospitals, plus phantom patients so you can practice until your positioning is second nature. Starting in your second semester, you’ll rotate through Lowcountry Regional Medical Center, outpatient imaging centers and orthopedic clinics across the Lowcountry. Program director Renée and clinical coordinator Thomas keep cohorts small, about 20 students a year, so you get real coaching. Graduates have a strong record on the ARRT exam, and many go on to earn advanced certifications in CT, MRI or mammography while working.
