Hawks cross country runners on a trail under live oaks by the river

Hawks cross country brings men’s and women’s runners together as one team. Head coach Samuel Kiprono, a former collegiate All-American from Kenya, builds training plans around each runner’s goals, whether that’s breaking 20 minutes in the 5K or chasing an individual title. The team trains on wooded trails along Cooper’s Run and hosts its home meet on the riverside course.

Coach Kiprono believes distance running teaches patience, discipline and resilience, the same habits that lead to success in class. Runners maintain the department’s 3.2 average GPA, and many go on to compete at four-year programs. The team also welcomes walk-ons and students new to the sport.
