Palmetto Ridge Junior College has reached a new milestone. Official census numbers show 2,450 students enrolled for Fall 2026, the highest total in the college’s 132-year history and a 9 percent increase over last year.
The student body is also the most diverse the college has ever seen. Students of color make up 58 percent of Hawks, 41 percent are the first in their families to attend college, and students come from 22 countries. Nearly one in six students is a veteran, service member, or military family member, and adult learners over age 25 make up about a third of enrollment.
Our founders opened this school in 1894 so that people who had been shut out could walk through the door. Every one of these 2,450 students is part of that promise.
— Dr. Renée Okafor-Bennett, President
Where the growth came from
Growth was strongest in nursing and health sciences, skilled trades, and the computer science and cybersecurity pathways. Enrollment leaders also credit the new Hawks Promise Scholarship, expanded dual enrollment with area high schools, and bilingual family information nights held across the Lowcountry.
Online enrollment through RidgeLearn grew as well, with many working adults combining online and evening classes at the Ridgeview Campus.
We had families tell us this was the first time a college felt like it was speaking directly to them. That matters.
— Dr. LaToya Simmons, Vice President for Enrollment Management
Spring 2027 registration opens November 2, and classes begin January 12.
