HVAC students servicing an outdoor air-conditioning unit

In the Lowcountry, air conditioning isn’t a luxury. HVAC technicians keep homes, schools, hospitals and businesses comfortable and safe, and skilled techs are in demand year-round. This certificate prepares you for entry-level installation and service work.

What you’ll learn

  • Refrigeration cycle and system components
  • Electrical circuits, controls and troubleshooting
  • Residential and light commercial installation
  • Heat pumps, gas furnaces and ductwork
  • Energy efficiency and high-efficiency equipment

Why Palmetto Ridge

Our HVAC lab in the Trades & Innovation Center includes working split systems, heat pumps, rooftop units and a refrigeration bench, so you troubleshoot real equipment instead of reading about it. You’ll test for EPA Section 608 certification during the program. Because the Ridgeview Campus is LEED-Gold certified, students also tour the building’s own geothermal and energy-recovery systems with our facilities team. Instructor Hector maintains a network of local contractors who visit every semester to recruit. Credits stack toward our Electrical Technology AAS if you want to keep building your skills.
