We were founded in 1894 to educate students who were shut out elsewhere. In 1967 we became one of the first integrated junior colleges in the state. Belonging isn't a program here. It's our history and our job.

Where to find community

  • Office of Diversity & Belonging, led by Dr. Jamal Mitchell, in Ridgeview Commons 210.
  • First-Gen Hawks: peer mentors, a first-gen lounge, and a celebration every November 8.
  • Student organizations including the Black Student Union, Latinx Student Alliance, Asian & Pacific Islander Student Association, Muslim Student Association, Spectrum (LGBTQ+), Native Student Circle and the International Club.
  • Accessibility Services for accommodations, assistive technology and testing support.
  • Veterans & Military Success Center on the Old Main Quad.
  • Gullah Geechee Heritage Programs through the Heritage Center and our certificate program.

Our commitments

Every year we publish enrollment, completion and transfer outcomes broken down by race, gender, age, first-generation status and Pell eligibility, so we can see where gaps remain and close them.
